A community of shared values

Guided by the enduring values of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, our schools cultivate a vibrant, nurturing community where shared ideals inspire every moment. Together, we shape students who are curious, connected, and compassionate, prepared to lead with purpose and integrity.

Curiosity

Our programs inspire a lifelong love of learning, encouraging students to ask questions, explore boldly, and embrace wonder.

Flying High at AstroCamp!

Grades 5–6 students explored science and adventure at AstroCamp through hands-on learning and stargazing.

Girl skylining in a forested area

Under the brilliant skies of Idyllwild in early November, our Grades 5 and 6 students tapped their curiosity, teamwork abilities, and scientific thinking at a three-day overnight trip to AstroCamp. Our 5/6 Village rotated through fascinating classes such as Atmosphere and Gases, Micrometeorites and Electricity, and Magnetism. From flying through the air on the zipline, to engineering a lunar lander, to gazing at the largest supermoon of 2025, our students expanded their critical thinking skills and enjoyed hands-on scientific experiences that sparked joy and wonder.

Exploring the Human Hand Through Innovation

Grade 3/4 students build robot fingers to explore muscles and movement.

Two boys marking and measuring a pool noodle for an experiment

Our Grade 3/4 Village students explored how muscles and bones work together to create movement through a two-part “Robot Finger” investigation. First, students built small paper finger models that required careful cutting and threading, helping them refine their fine motor skills as they observed how a tendon-like string bends the joints. Then, they scaled up their understanding by constructing giant finger models using pool noodles, allowing them to see the same mechanism at work on a larger, more dramatic scale. Students also spent time in the Innovation Lab, safely using canary blades to fabricate components and test their own dexterity. Through both models, students connected anatomy to engineering in a fun, hands-on way.

Connection

We nurture relationships that create a sense of belonging, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for your family.

Buddies Building Bridges

Multi-age Village buddies foster connection, curiosity, and friendship across grades.

At Wilshire Schools East, connection begins early and reaches across grades. TK and DK friends were delighted to meet their 3/4 Village buddies as part of a meaningful inter-age buddy program designed to build genuine relationships and a strong sense of community across the campus.

During their visit, older buddies shared stories, presented handmade cards, and asked thoughtful questions to get to know their youngest peers. Through these shared moments of listening, laughing, and learning together, children from different age groups created space for curiosity and friendship to grow. These early bonds reinforce a powerful idea: connection isn’t just about being together—it’s about showing up for one another with openness, respect, and joy.

Celebrating Sukkot Together

Jewish tradition and community come alive through connection and celebration.

Wilshire Schools East marked Sukkot with its annual Family Picnic, welcoming families from across the community to gather in celebration. From shaking the lulav and enjoying hands-on activities to sharing conversation and laughter, the evening brought Jewish tradition to life through meaningful connection.

The celebration highlighted relationships across the campus, as ECC children and their Brawerman East buddies came together to celebrate side by side. The night concluded with a special movie night organized by Brawerman East student leaders, underscoring the role students play in building community. From shared ritual to cross-age friendships and student-led initiative, the evening reflected a powerful truth: connection grows when families, students, and traditions come together.

Jewish Identity

Through meaningful traditions and shared experiences, students celebrate their Jewish heritage with pride and joy.

Answering the Call

Grade 6 students explore identity and history through immersive trips.

Guided by the Jewish value of Hineini (“Here I am”), Grade 6 students engaged in two immersive journeys that deepened their sense of identity, responsibility, and belonging. Though unable to travel to Israel in person, students participated in a Los Angeles–based experience that explored Jewish history, culture, and spirituality through hands-on learning.

Through sacred texts, ritual, music, and food, students reflected on what it means to show up for their heritage, for memory, and for one another. Students also traveled to the East Coast to explore how Jewish values live in the wider world, engaging with themes of protest, remembrance, resilience, and immigration. Together, these experiences reinforced a shared understanding: Jewish values are not only learned—they are lived, carried forward through reflection, responsibility, and action.

Living Tikkun Olam

Kindergarten students lived their Jewish identity through hands-on acts of tikkun olam.

Brawerman East Kindergarten students explored what it means to live Jewish values through a hands-on partnership with the onsite Karsh Social Service Center. Working together, students assembled activity kits for children who visit the center, thoughtfully preparing each bag and learning how their actions could bring comfort and care to others.

During the visit, students met a representative from Karsh, who explained how the kits would be used and answered students’ thoughtful questions. Through conversation and action, students began to understand tikkun olam not as an abstract idea, but as something they can practice—even at a young age. The experience helped students see Jewish identity as something lived through kindness, responsibility, and showing up for others.

Leadership

By cultivating independence, purpose, and responsibility, we empower students to lead with integrity and intentionality.

Leadership with Heart

Upper-grade students practiced leadership, collaboration, and community through student-led initiatives.

At a recent Student Leadership meeting, upper-grade students gathered with a shared purpose: to grow as leaders and ambassadors for their school community. What began as a conversation about introductions quickly evolved into a deeper exploration of confidence, communication, and representation.

Through playful role-playing and small-group activities, students practiced engaging others—learning how clarity, warmth, and authenticity shape meaningful connections. Laughter filled the room, but the learning was real: leadership can be both joyful and intentional.

Students then crafted short “elevator pitches” highlighting what they love most about Brawerman East, from the Innovation Lab and Shabbat experiences to art electives and playground traditions. Practicing their pitches helped students find their voice and prepare to welcome prospective families and younger students with pride.

The meeting also sparked student-led ideas, including a schoolwide movie night. When a student suggested hosting it during Sukkot to turn the event into a celebration of community and Jewish life, the group embraced the idea. Through collaboration and shared ownership, students learned that leadership isn’t about being the loudest—it’s about bringing others in and building community together.

Counting Together

Students showed leadership by tallying votes and announcing the apple tasting results.

Young boy playing a green tally into a cup

In celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the ECC community gathered for a festive apple tasting, inviting children to sample Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, and Envy apples before casting their votes for their favorite. What made the moment especially meaningful was what happened next.

The DK class took on the important task of tallying the results. With care and concentration, they counted each vote and announced the winning apple to their friends and families. Standing together in front of the community, they demonstrated responsibility, confidence, and pride in contributing to a shared decision.

Through experiences like these, even our youngest children learn that their voices matter. Participation becomes practice in responsibility, fairness, and belonging—showing that being part of a community means helping shape it.

Compassion

We prioritize empathy and kindness, encouraging students to care deeply, act thoughtfully, and make a meaningful impact on the world.

Compassion in Bloom

TK and DK students turned a lemonade stand into compassion, collaboration, and action for Israel.

When TK and DK students learned about Tu BiShvat and the tradition of planting trees in Israel, they felt inspired to help. Wanting to take action, students worked together to create a lemonade stand—transforming their learning into an act of care for the world around them.

These young students brainstormed ideas, made signs, and set up shop outside the school, joyfully selling lemonade to classmates, teachers, and families. Through collaboration and generosity, they raised $72—enough to plant multiple trees and support environmental renewal in Israel.

The experience showed students that compassion can begin early and take many forms. By turning learning into action, they discovered that even small gestures—when rooted in care and intention—can make a meaningful difference.

Growing in Empathy and Responsibility

Compassion is practiced daily through hands-on acts of care and responsibility.

At Glazer ECC, compassion is part of the daily rhythm of school life. Just steps from their classrooms, children visit the onsite Karsh Social Service Center to participate in meaningful acts of service throughout the year.

On different days, small groups help sort fresh produce or assemble snack bags for individuals and families in need. With guidance and care, children learn how their efforts contribute to something larger than themselves. What may seem like simple tasks (placing fruit into bins or preparing bags with intention) become early lessons in empathy and responsibility.

Through these regular visits, compassion is not taught as an abstract idea. It is practiced. Children come to understand that helping others is woven into the fabric of their community, and that even small hands can play a meaningful role in caring for the world around them.

It all adds up to brighter tomorrows
