The Power of Shared Learning

At Brawerman East, we believe that students thrive when learning is tailored to their pace, supported by community, and inspired by connection.

That’s why we use a Multi-Age Classroom Model, an approach that combines two grade levels into one cohesive learning environment, or “Village.”

A Collaborative Approach

In multi-age villages (Grades 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6), students grow together over two years. They form strong bonds with peers and teachers, take on both leadership and learning roles, and benefit from a flexible structure that allows them to be challenged and supported based on their individual readiness, not just their age.

The Benefits of a Multi-Age Classroom

Academic Growth & Individualized Learning

Instruction is tailored to each learner and paced by mastery, so students move ahead when ready while peer teaching deepens understanding and confidence.

Social & Emotional Development

Older students mentor and model leadership while younger students gain confidence through collaboration, building empathy, respect, and a strong sense of belonging.

Teacher-Student Continuity

Staying with the same teacher for two years builds trust and consistency, and teachers develop a deep understanding of each child to strengthen learning and classroom culture.

Real-World Skill Building

Students collaborate across ages and skill levels, practicing adaptability, leadership, and empathy, and developing communication and project skills that transfer beyond school.

How It Works

Flexible Grouping

Students work in small, skill-based groups for instruction and practice.

Collaborative Projects

Hands-on, inquiry-based learning encourages creativity and problem-solving.

Peer Mentorship

Older students help guide younger ones, solidifying their own learning while modeling leadership.

Individual Progress

Students set personal goals and track growth with their teachers.

Common Questions

Will my child be challenged at their level?
Absolutely. Teachers provide personalized instruction that supports and stretches each student.

Do younger students struggle to keep up?
No. With the support of peers and teachers, younger students thrive, building confidence and learning from more experienced classmates.

How do teachers manage different learning levels?
Through targeted small-group lessons, project-based learning, and individualized plans, instruction is both efficient and effective.

Is this the same as a split-grade classroom?
No. Multi-age learning is a purposefully designed long-term model, not a short-term solution for combining classes.
